Hello. My grandfather served with the 8th infantry division, 13th infantry regiment in WW2. I have many of the things that he brought back with him to the states, and am trying to learn more about them. Here is a picture of 3 badges that were among his things. Can anyone help me identify what they are. Thanks so much. Geoff
The one with the Eagle hanging from the boxed star is a "Mother's Pin" wich was worn by a mother whose sone was overseas. The Ribbons are : Purple Heart, Army Good Conduct and ETO Campaign ribbon with three stars indicating participation in three campaigns. The Ribbon bar is upside down in the photo. The third pin is a Distinctive Unit Insignia and I have no idea what unit it is. Brad
Brad, isn't the correct name for the first ribbon the European-African-Middle Eastern Medal? You are right, it is upside-down.
Yep...........that's the proper name. Just as PTO ribbon/ medal is the alternate name for Asiatic-Pacific campaign ribbon/medal. Sorry for any confusion
Here's a link to the 8th Division unit history, which includes the 13th Inf. Regiment and shows the various campaigns they partcipated in. World War II unit histories & officers
