    Hi,
There are many accounts from men who fought in the Great War who were either taken prisoner themselves, or who took an enemy prisoner after one of them made the Masonic Sign of Distress in the hope his opponent might also be in the Craft.
No accounts from men who saw this, weren't brethren and either shot the guy or took him prisoner anyway, of course!
Point is, does anyone have evidence of it happening in WW2? Obviously, the Craft in Germany was suppressed by the Nazis, which is why German Masons adopted the Forget Me Not (Vergissenmichnicht)as a secret emblem.Ditto for Russia. The entire organisation didn't just shrivel up and die though.
    Anyone got sources for this?

    Regards,
    Gordon

Not on WW2, but I very recently saw a book about freemasons fighting on both sides in the US Civil war, on line somewhere. freemasons in the civil war, or something it was called.

Sorry, no information that you could use here... :(

However I don't see a big relevance for this question...? It was the fate for basically all international communities that suddenly their members had to fight each other. Be this Jewish religion (in WW1, notabene), or scientist organisations... the freemasons are no exception.

I never said they were. This site is for research into WW2,so the question IS relevant.

Historian thanks for the info [IMG]

Usually when we hear about Freemasons, and wars were told that the Freemasons played both sides against each other for their own personal gain or something like that.

    Reddog,
Very true mate:in fact it's so predictable, I don't even bother getting offended anymore! :D
Love to find any sources for WW2 on the topic though. I know they exist for the Great War, because I read them years ago-can't remember the titles unforunately.
    Regards,
    Gordon
