Found a George T Conti that served in the 1st MarDiv. Born 31 July 1916, enlisted 26 Jan 42-Parris Island 28 Jan 42. Looks like he rotated home before Peleliu and was stationed at the Boston Navy Yard. The Navy Yards were big casual centers for troops coming back from the war awaiting reassignment/discharge. This Conti stayed in after the war and made Korea as well. Does that sound like him. Found several Conti's that went in the US Army from Newark.
Sorry for the confusion about my two uncles who served. My uncle George was the one in the USAAF. My uncle Wally served twice with the USMC. His first enlistment was with the Old Breed, he got out and then when the war started he he went back in but I think he served out his time at Lejeune as a clerk.
The Conti, George T, served as an 835-Aviation Material Clerk with 1st SSB (Service & Support Bn)-1st Marine Division and served at Camp LeJeune for a time post-war. As I said, there were several George Conti's I found for the US Army. You say the Marine's name was Wally. Conti as well?
This one is harder. There was a Rieth, Wallace K., that served from the late 1920's into WWII. Another Reith, Wallace K., that was a private in 1945. Then I found a draft registration card for a Wallace Reith, aged 30 in 1940 that was a mailman for the USPS. Any sound like they're the one?
Not pvt. I don’t understand the draft registration card since he already served. He did work for the usps between hitches and then again after the war. He was a real gentleman.
That's likely him then, if he served in the Marines before being a postman he's the one that served in the 20's/30's. I'll start compiling information. Here's the draft card:
Welcome to the site TRO, glad to have you. I spent some time in NW Pennsylvania at the turn of the century, I became very familiar with Yuengling's product line.
