Hello from France's Battlefields

    Hello,
    I'm 18 yo and I live in Alsace (France) somewhere along the main frontine of Nordwind Operation of January 1945.
    I'm interested by WW2 history and relics of Nordwind Operation. I know very well the battlefields between Haguenau and Sarreguemines by way of Wingen-sur-Moder; Reipertswiller, Phillipsbourg...
    I'm here because I want to learn more about the local history particularly by testimonies.
    Moreover I want propose my help; share inforamtions to people who had on their family somebody who fought there or just know one by showing them these places and the personnals items I've been led to found (like engraved mess tins for example).
    I wish find here what I search and hope be able to help those in need.

    Welcome to the forums. I'm looking forward to photos of the battlefields in northern Alsace. I visit once to twice per year. It is a beautiful area rich in second world war history.

    Welcome to the Forums. One of my relatives fought in the vicinity of Sarreguemines and Woelfling. I am also very interested in what you may have to share regarding the Nordwind Operation.

    Hello,
    my grandpa fought on the battlefields between Haguenau and Rittershoffen as a german soldier. He served in 21. Armored Division (220. Engineer Bataillon) He is missed in action during that battle. Probably he was killed on 20th of january at the end of the tank-battle. His last message is dated from beginning of january.

    My specialty is artillery but I have taken parties to Alsace and Lorraine. I have enjoyed exploring the battlefields of 1870 and 1914-18 as well as those of 1940-45.

    You are fortunate to live in a wonderful part of the world. October in Alsace is a special time and place. I was a guide historian for a small group of Americans. We stayed in Riquewihr. One member of the party went for an early morning walk and told me a revelation. He, and the rest of the group thought that Alsace was some kind of Disneyland, faked for tourists, until he found the wine grower whose wines he had in his cellar in Florida.
