Hello all. My name is Steve Thompson, I'm 42 and live in West Sussex near Crawley. I have been interested in WWII history since childhood. In recent years my interest has focused on the remaining and mostly forgotten anti invasion defences in the UK. The discovery of the Defence of Britain survey led to me gaining permission to convert the data into a Google earth overlay. During the course of doing this I realised that despite the hugely comprehensive scope of the survey many sites had been missed or incorrectly recorded so I started adding to and correcting the original data set. This has since developed into a project known as the Extended Defence of Britain survey or EDoB. Together with the Pillbox Study Group and a small but growing group of like minded individuals, of which The_Historian is one, I am continually adding to and correcting the database. If any of you know of a defence site of any kind that you think was not recorded by the original survey we would love to hear about it. However please download the latest version of the overlay to check if the site has already been submitted to us, it's available from the link in my signature to my public Dropbox folder. Cheers Steve
Welcome Aboard Steve! Earned a salute from me for the work you have done, as you guys over there say, Brilliant!
Thanks gents, it is quite a project but I have a lot of help from those like minded souls I mentioned.
I'm glad you found your way here, Steve. Your project sounds daunting, but with Gordon's help, I'm sure it will go easier.
Welcome aboard, Steve! Got a couple of new things to add when I get the time, but enjoy your stay here meantime.
Cheers Gordon, I'll start a dedicated thread for people to post their finds in if that's ok with the admin team? Both Gordon and Hutchie form the Scottish element of our little team so they have a lot of ground to cover!
