True - but there are certain aspects of the forum which are as such broken, and which solves some annoyances by fixing ;)

Please don't change the look or the background colour.

They did this over on A.H.F a while ago, and it looks effing awful.

lol. Tell that to a hyacinth. (Too much Trinny & Susannah methinks) ;) :)

I like Merlin's Avatar. Very respectful.

I agree, but I think what JCalhoun proposed would involve user-set preferences allowing different backgrounds instead of making another one standard. That way you can choose which one you like.

We won't change the default background though.

Regarding the avatar, it should be known that we (Skua, Ricky and me) have always offered a rank of respect to men we knew had served in the armed forces, but merlin repeatedly declined.

You have 500 Mb. - how much do you need? ;)

Only images are allowed, to prevent the upload of harmful files, though. If you (or any other member) has some other types of files they wish to have hosted, they're welcome to e-mail me at towwii [ad] panzerworld [dot] net.

May I clarify the award of the 'Veteran Badge' now used as my avatar, the government of the UK in 2005 decided to give this award to men and women of the UK who had served in WW2, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the war. This has now been extended to service before 1959, to include Korea and other minor? skirmishes around the world; the badge is identical but the citation for 39/45 service reads 'For service in WW2'.
I know that Canada gave a 60th. award because I have two sent on to me for my collection , whether other countries did so I do not know.
I requested this avatar to Christian because I have never felt happy wearing American awards that I am not entitled to.

On the other hand, only the forum owner is capable of adding avatar images, which is why we could not supply the appropriate badge.

    Righto...

I don't know, where is she from? :)

If you make a reply now and I don't answer, it's because I'm intentionally letting you have the last word, is that all right?

I like the look of the new avatars. They add a bit of color to the forum. An option for a custom avatar would be cool too!

Sorry, that is not going to happen. The current admin/mod team prefers the forum to provide a little bit of oversight concerning members' nametags, which is one of the reasons why we still have the ranking system. Giving members the option of selecting their own avatar will usually only result in a mad outgrowth of random images, some of which we will have to remove because they are not acceptable to us. These images also distract from what is important, namely post content. It is also for these reasons that we have disallowed images in signatures at first, and then signatures altogether.

Not to mention the fact that the rank images would inevitably create problems with security pop-ups and ads if they are remotely hosted, and if they are hosted on the forum, it'll take away space for quality images.
