It just struck me - this forum is essentially a part of this site: www.military.cz/panzer Which has a list of tanks by nationality etc, with pictures and stats. But browsing through them, there are few tanks, and the stats are often missing, yet here we are, with all this knowledge... Go to www.military.cz/panzer , click on 'Tanks', and see what I mean. Why not submit some info?
tanks in ww2 I came to this forum via the above site. I naively assumed that this forum was edited and administered by WW2 tankers of military rank so kept away fom it, I have submitted WW2 Tank pics. to the 'Jaroslav Pitonac' site but then found that the guest page was full of posers and dubious web sites (some of which turn up on this forum, and including banned persons from this forum). I may be wrong but do not think 'Jaroslav Pitonac' is still with the site.
It does look like your pictures were posted - but he seems to have put your Comet pictures under the Centurion! http://www.military.cz/panzer/index_en.htm
He is, and his email adress panzer@military.cz is still active as far as I know. He occasionally even drops by on the forum. All members are kindly invited to give their help and support to the host website, though the Admin cannot guarantee that it will be processed immediately...
Ya I dont really go on the site because of the music it is too much of a hassel for me to keep pressing the red X.
With the new site ownership and a man in charge who might actually listen to the forum's united expertise, I felt it would be a good idea to bump this thread. Christian, do you think you have the time and the motivation to clean up the root website and expand it somewhat according to what the members here bring in? If so, I suggest we unite our knowledge and fire away. We could really turn that page into something good.
what I'd like to see if the tanks listed by year and effectivly varient. It narks me off to see people talking about tanks, say the mark IV, and just generalising about it when clearly a 45 varient has little in common with it's 39 predecesor. You also get this with the T-34's with people rarely expressing them by their varients and just globalising taking all T-34's to be the same. FNG
I think it would be best if we awaited his answer to my question above - it may be that he just doesn't feel like it, which is why I asked before giving the go signal. FNG, good point. Not to mention exactly what I had in mind when it comes to improving the main page - along with providing accurate numbers for each of these separate types.
In my opinion another thing the site is seriously lacking is a brief--at least--history of each tank. It should be good to add a text stating number of manufractured tanks of each type, brief opperational history(For example when entered service for the first time, major battles it was used) etc. What do you think?
While I do plan to do something about the main website, at the moment, I simply don't have timeto take on a project like this. I have to sort out quite a few things as they are with the current site, and only then will I be able to add more contents. I don't know when I'll have more time, but I'm hoping 2007. In the meantime, I'd appreciate if the amount of incoming material is kept to a relative minimum. While I do have some plans for the website at this time, I'm not sure exactly what I'll do when I do get time, and thus material sent might not be useful in the future.
