Xmas present ( on WW2...)

So here it goes again. What did you get for Xmas to keep your addiction for WW2 going on?

I already mentioned mine awhile back as I bought myself the autograph of Ludwig Crüwell.

Unfortunately this time that is all for me. How about you guys?

Its 10:32 AM here on Christmas day and I have yet to open any of my presents.

 

pretty skimpy this Christmas actually our presents were opened lats night amidst crazy grand-daughters ripping the house up crazy......

1 very nice OOP book this one came several days ago from Wien Austria :

a very sought after book on the little known Atlantic theater

A book the thickness of a door step which covers all of WW2.

Oh, and this...actually i got it before Christmas, my wife asked me back in November what i would like, imagine her face when i said "a Machine Gun"

I have such a wonderful, understanding wife...

Leningrad to Berlin by Perry Pierik , volunteers of the Dutch Waffen SS Brigade , got it particulary for the Nederland Brigade at Narva.

Great book but doesn't top an MG 42 great stuff,

Well, I got an 8 DVD box set of WW2 documentaries, a Dragon 1/35 scale Jagdpanther, a few books & games...oh, and the complete series of Fawlty Towers!

But, like Paul said, none of them can top an Mg42.

Though the Fawlty Towers DVDs can top it for comedy!

 

Cough...splutter...i don't believe what i'm reading - Martin is speechless !!!

I must point out that the weapon is actually an MG53. I would have loved an MG42 but my 'wonderful, understanding wife' wouldn't stretch to £800+. The MG53 is identical to the MG42 apart from it not having a front mount for an AA sight, also the butt doesn't curl up quite as much as on an MG42.

However, the rounds, belt and starter tab are all wartime dated including WaA stamps on the belt and starter.

I'm sure Martin will now produce something from his vast weapons collection to top me...

Kai, i thought about buying my wife a years subscription to After The Battle, but after coming to my senses, i settled on a few 'girlie' gifts.

No, no...but I've just spent an enjoyable hour un-boxing my Christmas-present-to-me 2007...the FOV die-cast 1/16 Tiger I 'Wittmann's Last Battle'.

Absurdly big, absurdly expensive, impossible to justify.....







I love it !

Even my Wife was impressed, and asked me to recount the Wittmann story.....

 

Ahhh... it takes hours of practice to be able to create that " comfy with my Tiger" feel...

Good book there Paul, read it a couple of years ago very interesting.

Got a couple of books this year, Stalingrad - The Air Battle: 1942 through January 1943 and Berlin Soldier - The explosive memoir of a 17 year old boy called up to fight in the last weeks of the Second World War.

 

Next we'll probably get someone who's family bought them the Bovington Tiger!

 

Conveniently, I also got 'Tigers In Combat' Vols I & II by Schneider.....

 

hmmmmm good books, beautiful 1/16th scale, a fine pic of a young lad in the present day, all going outside to the BBQ table right Martin ?

 

I have Vol I..........maybe I'll buy Vol II as an after- Christmas gift to myself.

 

i'm very happy as i recd gift cards for the local bookstore!! now i just have pick the ones i want! suggestions on "market garden" are welcomed!!

 

Firstly, nice, very nice MG (JP44) and Martin, nothing wrong with owning Wittmann's Tiger-even if not full-sized ;-))

A few things I recieved include:

5 new John Wayne DvD's including the movies: Telegraph Trail, Rio Bravo (2 disk collectors edition) The Sea Chase (where Duke playes a Kapitan in the Kriegsmarine) Blood Alley (one of Duke's anti-commie movies ;-)) They Were Expendable, one of Duke's War-time Navy movies)

Several other DvD's including: Blue Thunder w/ Roy Schieder, Meet John Doe w/ Gary Cooper & Barbara Stanwyck, At War With the Army w/ Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis, and some others.

5 pairs of WWII German Officers Shoulderboards including one pair acquired from a Knights Cross Recipients family.

A mint unissued 1939 EK2 w/ mint original paper issue packet & length of ribbon.

A nice 3-place all WWII Luftwaffe Ribbonbar (Erich will like this piece for sure)

Ze finale piece is a brand new Digital Camera-for me to learn how to use then to learn how to post photos of thy collection here )

And im not counting this stuff as an actual gift items because they are perishable but, a new neighbor-friend of mine loves baking and she sent me over fresh Brownies, cup-cakes, pretzels, and some candy.

Not too bad of a haul this year.
